Believers are mainly Sunni Muslims (89% – mostly Turkmen, Uzbeks, Persians), there is a minority Orthodox (9% mainly Russians). Official ideology nationality is a combination of traditional Islam with political and social doctrine of former President Saparmyrata Nyýazowa – the basic education in Turkmenistan is the Koran and written by Nyýazowa Ruhnama (Book of Life).
